Gay gamers differ in video games. There are a variety of action-packed shooter games to pick from, but there are also story-driven games featuring LGBT themes or characters. These games are ideal for LGBT gamers or players who are queer.
Mystery Games Gay
The popular platformer Celeste is a wonderful example of an LGBT game that doesn’t try to conceal its gay themes. Celeste’s creator, designer director, and writer are transgender, so the queer aspect is integrated into the story in an authentic way. The game is a bit challenging and requires a lot of practice, but it’s well worth it.

Gone Home, a 2013 adventure game that represents LGBT gaming well is another fantastic title. In this story-driven game it is played by the player in the character of Katie, a woman who returns home to her family home in the rural area of Oregan after a long absence only to discover the place empty and abandoned. The player then has the option of exploring the house, finding clues and journal entries that assist in determining what went on. The game received critical acclaim when it was released, and is often utilized to prove that video games are art.

Many older RPGs include gay-friendly elements. For example, 1988’s Dragon Warrior CD includes a minor transgender character, Birdo, who is often mistaken by other characters as the character of a girl due to their attractive appearance and exuberant mannerisms. Nintendo eventually censored the character. Prior to the time that the ESRB was established Nintendo had allowed female adversaries and sexually suggestive content in games.
More recently, the Mass Effect series has included choices for players to develop romantic relationships of the same gender with NPCs. Although this has been criticized as focusing on a specific definition of gender, the games allow players to select whether they would like to pursue a male or female romance. Both Mass Effect 3 and 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda allowed the player to marry a transgender character, Niles.
Life Is Strange : True Colors, as well as Saints Row are two other games that have queer content. The games offer a wide range of romance options that do not rely on sexual sex that is biological. They also add character depth by detailing their motivations, personalities and motives.
Other examples of queer-themed gameplay are found in the 2015 indie title Undertale featuring an all-gender protagonist that can romance either the male or female characters. The game is filled with emotion and has a quirky distinctive character.
The 2017 dad dating sim Dream Daddy is also a excellent example of queer gaming. The game is chock packed with dad jokes that will definitely make you giggle as well, it also explores the issues gay men face trying to be fathers. It’s a great and enjoyable game to play, and the three first chapters are completely free on iOS. There’s also a range of paid downloadable content packs available.
