And one such gay game on steam is Gay World, a $1 title from developer Ghost_RUS that features a plethora of homophobic and anti-trans content. The game, which has a logo that closely resembles the Pride flag and is ostensibly about escaping from “gay boys and bodybuilders”, quickly garnered a large fanbase among the LGBTQ community, many of whom were teens or pre-teens. This led to a lot of drama, including a dev making a long thread of anti-trans tweets and the gay steam game losing essentially all of its trans fans.

Fortunately, there are plenty of great, LGBT-inclusive titles that have been quietly gaining traction on the platform and beyond. From a gay dating sim to a survival horror game with a twist, here are a few of our favorite queer gay games on Steam.

Dream Daddy is a dating sim with a twist: you can romance other hot dads while playing as your own customizable avatar. The gay game is brimming with dad jokes and hits on the struggles of being a queer person, but it’s also really fun to play. Best of all, it runs well on the Steam Deck.

The Last of Us
The Last of Us is a game that received critical acclaim from many gaming publications and awards ceremonies. Whether the protagonist of Dream Daddy is a cisgender man, transgender woman, or both, the 2017 visual novel lets gamers choose how they want to play, which can be a powerful message for young players who are exploring their own sexuality. Other steam gay games are more explicitly gender-neutral, such as the 2015 PC game Undertale, which allows its main character, Frisk, to be either male or female, depending on what actions a player chooses to take during the game.

While Nintendo’s censorship policies have been relaxed since the 1990s, there’s still a lot of work to be done when it comes to LGBTQ representation in video games.
